Two West German companies are being investigated in connection with the suspected illegal sale to Pakistan of material that can be used in the production of atomic weapons, prosecutors said in Frankfurt. The companies were identified as Neue Technologie GmbH and a sister firm, both in the Frankfurt area. Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto said Sunday that while Pakistan has no plans to make nuclear weapons, it won’t sign the nuclear non-proliferation treaty unless India does. The Frankfurt prosecutors said there also was evidence of illegal sales by the West German companies of nuclear reactor equipment to India and South Africa as well as to Pakistan.
