Culver City : Utility Tax Refund Deadline

Share

Residents have until Dec. 31 to file a claim for refunds of the 1987 utility users’ tax. Refunds for this year’s utility taxes may be filed after Jan. 2.

City Treasurer Sue A. McCabe said disabled residents covered by the Social Security Administration’s Supplemental Security Income Program, or residents at least 60 years old with adjusted annual gross incomes of no more than $8,000, or an annual income of no more $9,000 combined for all household members, are eligible for a refund from city taxes on gas, water, electricity, telephone and cable television.

Qualified renters who are billed for utilities as part of their monthly rent are also eligible for a partial refund up to $24 for all utilities.

Claims must be filed at the city treasurer’s office, 9770 Culver Blvd., or at the Senior Citizens Center, 4135 Overland Ave.

McCabe said many residents eligible for refunds may qualify for an exemption from the taxes on monthly utility bills. Claims for exemption may be filed with the city treasurer.
