The Orange Unified School District Board of Education is seeking applicants for a vacancy, and persons wishing to apply have until noon Thursday to submit an application.

The vacancy to be filled is the unexpired term of veteran board member William G. Steiner, who resigned Dec. 15 to accept an appointment as an Orange councilman.

Anyone who is 18 or older, a registered voter and a resident of the trustee area is eligible. The trustee area is the northern part of the city of Orange, generally west of the Costa Mesa Freeway and east of the Santa Ana River.

Persons wishing to apply should submit a resume by noon Thursday to the superintendent’s office at 370 N. Glassell St., Orange. The school board will interview the candidates and make an appointment to the post by Feb. 5, according to school district officials.

The person appointed will hold the unexpired seat until November and then, by law, would have to run for election to the remaining 2 years of Steiner’s unexpired term to keep the seat. The terms of four other school board members, Joe Cherry, Robert Elliott, Ruth Evans and Sandy Englander, will also expire in November.
