EAGLE, Alaska —
Jim Wilson of Kobuk, Alaska, took the lead Sunday night in the 1,600-kilometer Yukon Quest dog sled race. In his first time in the race from Whitehorse, Yukon, to Fairbanks, Alaska, Wilson took the lead from Jeff King of Denali, Alaska, a six-year race veteran. Wilson arrived at Biederman’s Cabin, about 135 kilometers downriver from the Eagle checkpoint, 13 minutes ahead of King. Sonny Lindner of Two Rivers, Alaska, who won the race in 1984, was third.
