Control of Two N.M. Fires Near, Forest Service Says

GILA NATIONAL FOREST, N.M. —
U.S. Forest Service officials are optimistic that they will control by today two southwestern New Mexico fires that have burned more than 32,000 acres of rugged canyon country. More than 1,300 firefighters, using nine helicopters and 12 bulldozers, have worked the blaze, started June 15 by a lightning strike, the Forest Service said.
