Maria Casale, 26, of North Hollywood is one of four finalists in the the U.S.A. International Harp Competition that will wrap up this evening in Bloomington, Ind. Two other Americans and and a 19-year-old girl from France are the other finalists. All four will perform solo and with orchestra tonight before a winner is selected. The harp competition is the first in the United States in 20 years. It was founded by Susann McDonald, professor of music at Indiana University and chair of the school’s harp department. Thirty-seven harpists from 14 countries have performed at the IU School of Music since the competition began July 4.
