Israel said it could not extradite to Colombia a reserve army colonel alleged to have trained hit squads for Colombian drug cartels. “The extradition of Yair Klein is legally impossible,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Yosef Amihud told reporters in Jerusalem. He said Israeli law bars the extradition of anyone to a country with which Israel has no extradition treaty. Although Colombia has not yet asked that Klein be handed over, warrants for his arrest and extradition on charges of criminal conspiracy have been issued. Klein earlier said he only trained cattle ranchers to fight off Communist rebels.
