Nation : Glenn Punched, Seizes Assailant
Sen. John Glenn (D-Ohio) was slugged in the jaw after a tree-planting ceremony in the nation’s capital, but the former Marine grabbed and held the assailant until he was turned over to police.
Glenn, 68, was slugged “fairly hard” in the Tuesday incident but was not knocked down and left afterward to keep an appointment, according to his assistant press secretary, Lowell Solomon.
District of Columbia police arrested Michael J. Breen, 31, of southwest Washington, and charged him with assault on a member of the U.S. Congress, a federal offense. He is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday in U.S. District Court.
“The guy seemed to be a bit unstable,” Solomon said, explaining that the attacker was talking about “earthquakes are going to be beginning” and that the “Pope knows about it.”
