Man Gets Probation, Fine in Electrocution
A Lake Los Angeles man has been sentenced to five years probation, almost $25,000 in fines and 500 hours of community service in the death of a neighbor boy electrocuted by a fence on the man’s property.
Lancaster Superior Court Judge Margaret Grignon imposed the sentence Tuesday on Michael Gill, 45, who pleaded guilty in September to involuntary manslaughter in the death of 2-year-old Andrew Verhoff. The boy died last December after touching an electrified fence on Gill’s property.
Gill faced a maximum sentence of four years in state prison, but the district attorney’s office recommended that he serve no more than a year in county jail. Grignon said she did not feel jail time was appropriate in what she called a tragic case.
