Sales Tax on Religious Items

Share

Since we all believe in the separation of church and state, why haven’t we ever achieved it?

From Catholicism to Scientology, from collection plates to investment portfolios, vast real estate holdings and historical wealth--the state has always felt the responsibility to provide all the necessities to religious organizations. Whether the taxpayer likes it or not, he pays for the roads, sewers, police, government and whatever else to support every religion and cult that qualifies. Why shouldn’t every organization pay its own way, and when working on charitable endeavors get a write-off on that activity just like the rest of us? The government has no right to interfere with religion--either way.
