Four robbery suspects leaving a McDonald’s restaurant in Sunland after tying up the manager were confronted by nine police officers early today, resulting in a gun battle in which three suspects were killed and one wounded, officials said.

None of the officers involved in the northern Los Angeles shoot-out were injured.

The gun battle occurred about 1:30 a.m., said Police Lt. William Hall.

The robbers had been followed by undercover officers investigating a rash of McDonald’s restaurant robberies, Hall said.

“The doors were locked,” Hall said. “We don’t know how they got in, but (the manager) didn’t let them in. They tied her up and forced her to provide the combination to the safe.”

The unidentified manager was not hurt.

A Holy Cross Hospital nursing supervisor would not give the condition of the wounded suspect.
