From Times Staff and Wire Service Reports

Attorneys for Bally’s-Reno said Monday they will appeal a jury verdict that held the hotel-casino liable for nearly $1.6 million in damages awarded to an acrobat who fell during a performance of “Hello Hollywood, Hello.”

Jaroslaw Chadraba, who performed under the name of Jerry Dewert, broke both heels and his left wrist when he fell during a performance Feb. 19, 1987.

A Washoe District Court jury found Bally’s 90% responsible for the accident and the plaintiff 10% responsible in awarding him $1.57 million.

Bally’s contends that the acrobat’s protective leather sleeve was defective and that he designed a dangerous act that assumed the risks associated with the performance.
