CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : CHINO : Inmate Found Dead in Facility
A prison inmate was found dead in a weightlifting area of the California Institution for Men at Chino, and authorities suspect he was murdered. Guards responding to calls of a “man down” found Alfred Freiburger, 41, lying on the ground with massive head injuries, prison spokesman Ron Blakely said. Freiburger, a Ventura County resident serving a term for possession of methamphetamines for sale, was taken to the prison hospital and pronounced dead on arrival. No weapons were found, but prison officials believe Freiburger was struck with a blunt object, Blakely said. It was the first suspicious death at Chino in two years.
