THOUSAND OAKS : Man, 18, to Be Tried in Fatal Knife Attack
A Thousand Oaks man has been ordered to stand trial in connection with the stabbing death of a man whom witnesses said had been making homosexual advances toward him.
Court witnesses on Thursday identified Jose Luis Navarro, 18, as the man who on April 19 stabbed Jose Narvaez, 49, three times in the abdomen and back as he took an evening stroll, Deputy Dist. Atty. Richard E. Holmes said.
Navarro is in custody at Ventura County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bail.
“The two men were seen by witnesses engaging in a confrontation and then running in opposite directions. After running a short distance, Narvaez collapsed and died,” Holmes said.
The knife believed to be the murder weapon was found on a nearby hillside and later identified by witnesses as belonging to Navarro, Holmes said.
He said witnesses for the defendants said they saw Narvaez “bothering Navarro by making homosexual advances” before the stabbing.
