Douglas Florian Talbott; Assistant Plant Manager

Douglas Florian Talbott, assistant plant manager at the former Stroh Brewery Co. in Van Nuys, has died at his Sepulveda home. He was 65.

Talbott died Saturday of cancer, his son Tom Talbott said.

He was born May 1, 1925, in Elizabeth, Colo., and married Norma Allen in the mid 1940s.

Talbott was hired as an operating engineer at the Joseph Schlitz Brewing Co. shortly after it opened in Van Nuys. He became assistant plant manager at the brewery, where he worked until February, when his health worsened. He had planned to retire later this year when the plant closed.

He is survived by a son, Tom Talbott of Lancaster; a daughter, Candy Vanderham of Valencia; a brother, Donald Talbott of Frazier Park, Calif.; a sister, Lucy Graham of Las Vegas; one grandson and one granddaughter. His wife died in 1985.

A funeral is scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park-Glendale, 1712 S. Glendale Ave., with burial to follow. Forest Lawn Mortuary in Glendale handled the arrangements. Donations can be made in Talbott’s name to the American Cancer Society, San Fernando Valley unit.
