Record Year for Farm Imports, Exports: The United States exported a record $40.2 billion in farm products in fiscal 1990 but also posted record farm imports due to U.S. taste for foreign wine, beer, meat, fruits and vegetables, according to the Agriculture Department. Even with the $22.5 billion in imports--up $1 billion from the preceding year--agriculture is a bright spot in the U.”. trade picture with a trade surplus of $17.7 billion, the agency said.
