The government today conditionally allowed a Japanese investment firm to buy a premier golf course, overturning a ruling in September by the previous Labor government.

“Today I have given approval to the sale of the Wairakei Golf Course,” Lands Minister Rob Storey told a news conference. “Jobs, investment, and an enhanced perception of New Zealand are major factors in this decision.”

Japanese Golf Systems bought the course near the tourist resort town of Taupo in North Island for an undisclosed sum.
