NATION IN BRIEF : WISCONSIN : Archbishop Ignores Vatican Censure
Roman Catholic Archbishop Rembert G. Weakland, censured by the Vatican for studying the reasons women have abortions, said his critics won’t silence his views. “I can’t imagine (being stopped) unless you take out my tongue,” he told reporters as he broke into laughter at a news conference in Milwaukee marking his return from a trip to El Salvador. Weakland has maintained he respects the church’s opposition to abortion but says church leaders need to better examine the reasons why women, including Catholics, risk sin to obtain abortions.
