Baldwin Park : No Alcohol for Center
The City Council refused to consider drafting an ordinance allowing limited alcohol consumption at the city’s Community Center at 4115 Laurens Ave.
City Human Services Director Lee Lucas had recommended passage of an ordinance allowing beer and wine to be served at the center no more than six times a year.
Councilman Martin Gallegos backed the proposal, calling it restrictive enough. But other council members strongly opposed the measure.
Councilwoman Julia McNeill said: “If you visit a country club or night club, you expect alcohol to be served. I think a Community Center is the last place you expect to see it.”
