GTE Corp., Stamford, Conn., named Charles A. Crain chief operating officer and executive vice president of its Irving, Tex.-based GTE Telephone Operations unit in addition to his current post as president of Thousand Oaks-based GTE West Area, which serves GTE customers in the Western states and some Pacific islands.
