Westminster : City Hikes Salaries for Lifeguards, Aides

Share

To avert a possible shortage of lifeguards and other recreation aides this summer, the City Council has approved a 10% pay increase for three dozen part-time summer employees.

Lifeguards have been especially difficult to attract because “the state has continually placed greater minimum qualifications for positions such as swimming pool manager, and to attract qualified applicants at our current salary level is almost impossible,” Personnel Officer Janie Miller said.

Miller said the raises bring those salaries up to the county median. They affect eight positions ranging from student recreation aides, who won a raise from $4.40 and hour to $4.84 an hour, to swimming pool managers, who will receive a raise from a from $8.20 to $9.02. The council voted unanimously Tuesday to adopt the raises.
