Lemon Grove
An off-duty sheriff’s deputy charged with pulling a gun on a fellow deputy after a disturbance at a bar has pleaded guilty to three misdemeanor charges.
Jose Raimundo Huizar, 28, pleaded guilty Wednesday to brandishing a weapon in a threatening manner, driving under the influence of alcohol and battery. A six-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Department, he is now on administrative leave from the Lemon Grove substation.
Huizar, who will be sentenced May 15, could receive as much as 30 months in County Jail and receive a fine.
The charges, which were reduced from felonies to misdemeanors in a plea bargain, stemmed from a Nov. 6 incident at the Nite-Life East bar in Lemon Grove. Deputies twice responded to complaints of disturbances at the bar.
Huizar drove away from the bar but was stopped by deputies in Spring Valley. He pulled a gun on one deputy, but no shots were fired, and he was arrested.
San Diego Superior Court Judge Thomas Whelan allowed Huizar to remain free on his own recognizance until sentencing.
