Abortion Clinic Target of Annual Easter Protest

Share

Several dozen members of Operation Rescue staged a sit-in Friday in the hall outside a downtown Los Angeles women’s clinic in the anti-abortion group’s third Easter campaign aimed at shutting down the facilities.

About 40 anti-abortion activists began their demonstration at 9 a.m. at the Latin Family Planning clinic on the fourth floor at 707 S. Broadway. An equal number of abortion rights activists gathered on the sidewalk outside, Police Lt. Winthron Taylor said.

Both groups were peaceful and no arrests were made.

The clinic, which performs abortions and provides gynecological services, was closed because of the Easter holiday, manager Maurice Dominguez said. A spokesman for Operation Rescue maintained that appointments had been made for abortions at the clinic Friday. He said the group’s third annual Easter anti-abortion rally would continue today.
