State Export Picture Bright: The California World Trade Commission said state exports surpassed $58 billion in 1990. Leading the nation in exporting, California accounts for one of every seven U.S. export dollars. California’s top export commodities are machinery, electrical equipment and transportation equipment. Large gains were recorded by exporters of electrical equipment, experiencing 16% growth from 1989 to reach nearly $12 billion in exports. California’s top overseas markets were the European Community, Japan, Canada and Mexico, purchasing $14.9 billion, $10.3 billion, $5.8 billion and $4.7 billion respectively.
