More Shots Are Fired in the Evolutionary War

Your article about the “church vs. state” debate at Capistrano Valley High School really got to me. A high school teacher like John Peloza has a lot of authority over students, and to abuse this authority by pushing religious beliefs on these students is outrageous.

Emily Long is not alone in her beliefs. It is not the responsibility of a public school to teach religion. Parents who want their children to have a religious education can send them to a private school or give them the additional training outside of the public school system. It is not up to teachers like John Peloza to decide the religious beliefs for anyone , especially high school students.

Ms. Long is a courageous young woman and should be congratulated for standing up for her convictions. Her parents should be very proud of their daughter.
