Altadena : Lot-Splitting Variance OKd

Share

In spite of the objection of the Altadena Town Council, the Los Angeles County Planning Commission has approved a variance allowing a North Altadena lot to be split in two.

Neighbors of the 60,000-square-foot lot, at 1305 E. Rubio St., said they will appeal Wednesday’s decision, which they believe will allow the owner to build a new house behind an existing one.

“Wherever vacant lots are available, developers put in oversized houses,” said Todd Jones, a spokesman for about 40 residents.

Lincoln Martin, who owns the lot and has lived in the house for 47 years, conceded that he wants to prepare the vacant lot for sale. He needed a variance because the new rear lot would be less than the required 20,000 square feet.

Armen D. Minasian, associate planner for the Regional Planning Department, said there are many other substandard lots in the area.
