Gateway Founder Resigns: David S. McMaster has resigned as chief executive of Gateway Communications Inc., a computer network and communications company he founded in 1981, to pursue other interests. He will be succeeded by Donald F. Brosnan, a director of the company.

Brosnan will assume duties as president and chief executive on Jan. 1. McMaster will remain a director with Gateway. Brosnan has been a member of the Gateway board of directors since 1986 and most recently has been an independent consultant.

For five years, he represented Hillman Ventures, a venture capital firm, handling management and board of director assignments with companies where Hillman held stakes. Brosnan was previously president of MSI Data Corp., a Costa Mesa maker of data-entry terminals. Before that, Brosnan had a long career with Honeywell Inc. as a general manager and marketing executive in its information systems business.
