Fred Strook, a UCLA assistant athletic director who is considered one of the Pacific 10 Conference’s foremost experts on graduation rates, has been named to a newly created position of assistant athletic director for academic services at USC, the school announced.

Strook, 43, a USC graduate from Torrance, will oversee academic services for the school’s 450 athletes after spending eight years at UCLA, seven as an athletic administrator.

USC--The name of Fred Stroock, USC’s newly appointed assistant athletic director in charge of academic services, was misspelled in Thursday’s editions.

“They want to try to coordinate all the academic activities that relate to the student-athletes, including issues such as career guidance,” Strook said Wednesday.
