A former police officer was sentenced to six years in prison Monday for running two prostitution rings disguised as escort services that catered to hundreds of men in Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties.

Charles Gerald Jiles, 38, of Upland was convicted by a jury in November on 12 counts of pimping, pandering and conspiracy in connection with one prostitution ring. On Monday, he pleaded guilty to similar charges stemming from a second illicit escort service he allegedly set up while on bail for the first offense.

Jiles entered his guilty plea before Orange County Superior Court Judge Kathleen E. O’Leary, who then sentenced him in connection with both schemes. Jiles had been facing another trial on charges related to the second escort service.

During his first trial, an Orange County Superior Court jury heard candid testimony for three weeks about steamy sexual encounters between lonely men and attractive escorts. Hundreds of men in Orange, San Bernardino and Riverside counties used the service, prosecutors contended.

Seven women who said they worked at Jiles’ “Beautiful Escorts” service were granted immunity for their testimony. They told the jury that they charged between $250 and $300 for an hour “date.” They said Jiles received $85 of their hourly fee.

Jiles formerly worked as a patrol officer with the Upland and Claremont police departments. He testified that his employees were “private contractors” who were not told what to do on a date. Jiles said he told his escorts not to engage in any illegal activity.
