Killing of Intruders at The Watch Co.

I read with dismay that many people are angry at the shopkeeper who shot and killed the would-be robbers. That the parents of the would-be robbers want to sue the shopkeeper. Why isn’t their anger directed at the would-be crooks, who came to steal another man’s property and perhaps kill or maim him in the process? Would they be less angry and upset if the shopkeeper was not so good at defending himself? That maybe he got killed instead?
