GETTING WORSE: A new survey by Ebony magazine shows that 54% of American blacks consider racism as bad now as it was 10 to 20 years ago. Pamela Hills of the Progressive Women’s Assn., a black activist group based in Irvine, says it’s no surprise. She cites the Rodney King case, in which four Los Angeles police officers were acquitted of assault charges Wednesday. . . . “We know that if Rodney King had been white, that jury would have been back with guilty verdicts long ago,” she says. “And if Rodney King had been white, this probably never would have happened.” Hills says her group is trying to give black women self-esteem to better deal with racism.
