Bank to Donate $1 Million to L.A.
Challenging other corporations to donate money, American Savings Bank said Monday that it would give $1 million toward the rebuilding of riot-torn Los Angeles.
“We expect this money will be used for repairs and reconstruction in helping the city get back to normalcy,” said John Nunn, a senior vice president.
Nunn said the announcement follows a telephone conversation on Friday with Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley, who along with Peter Ueberroth, newly appointed head of a commission to rebuild Los Angeles, has asked communities, businesses and government agencies to participate in the reconstruction.
The bank will also present its Service Pride Award, along with $5,000, to “the heroes of Los Angeles” who emerged from last week’s rioting, Nunn said.
