La Canada Flintridge : Business License Fee Weighed

Share

The City Council on Monday will consider imposing a business license fee to help pay for recommendations made in the Foothill Boulevard Master Plan.

The plan calls for measures to increase the variety of businesses, build sales, improve building structures and recruit a corps of retired business people to provide voluntary advisory services.

A proposed ordinance would require retailers to pay an annual fee of $80 plus $5 for each employee. Physicians would pay $200 plus $5 for each worker. Those who conduct business out of their homes would be charged $40. Amounts are based on what the city perceives individual businesses can afford to pay, as well as the services they contribute.

Another provision, which has met opposition from building owners, would impose a $345 health and safety inspection fee each time a building is vacated, City Manager Gabrielle Pryor said.
