Cal State Northridge’s David Eggert had completed all six of his starts this season before Pepperdine snapped the string Tuesday. Eggert went 9 2/3 innings, leaving with the score tied, 3-3. Pepperdine won in 15 innings, 6-4.

The Northridge pitching staff, which was averaging more than 10 strikeouts per nine innings most of the season, has not reached double figures in strikeouts in the past eight games. The staff has 465 strikeouts in 457 2/3 innings. . . . Denny Vigo, who has appeared in only three of Northridge’s 11 games since suffering an ankle injury against Southern Utah on April 18, started as designated hitter Tuesday. In five at-bats, he had three hits, including his fifth home run.

Greg Shockey was three for six with two walks against Pepperdine, but he scored only once. He also failed to drive in a run, leaving him with 150 runs batted in in his career, tied with Craig Clayton atop the Northridge list.

Mike Teron leads the Cal Lutheran pitching staff with an 0.81 earned-run average in 33 1/3 innings. Pat Norville and Louis Birdt are next with 1.50 ERAs. Norville leads in strikeouts with 58 and has walked only 16 in 72 innings. Birdt has struck out 19 and walked seven in 24 innings.

Cal Lutheran’s Dan Smith was five for eight in a three-game series against Whittier this past weekend and raised his batting average from .320 to .338. Smith has 46 hits in 136 at-bats. Smith’s best effort of the weekend came in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday when he hit two doubles and two solo home runs. The Kingsmen swept the series.

Softball: Center fielder Jen Fleming has batted .340 in the past 16 games to take over the Northridge lead in batting average at .322. First baseman Tamara Ivie is next at .320, followed by catcher Patti Pearson and shortstop Beth Calcante, each at .284, and designated hitter-catcher Missy Cress at .283. Ivie leads in on-base percentage at .385 and walks with 20. Calcante is second among NCAA Division I players with 10 home runs and is the team leader in RBIs with 31.

Cress is batting a team-leading .444 with runners in scoring position and leads the Matadors in stolen bases with 11. Pitcher Cami Allen has won seven of her past nine decisions.

Track and field: Sasha Vujic of Northridge moved to second on the all-time Matador list in the men’s 1,500 meters Saturday when he timed a personal best of 3 minutes 45.08 seconds to finish third in the Occidental Invitational. Vujic trails Will James, who ran 3:43.42 in 1987.

Northridge freshman Kristin Dunn moved to third on the all-time Northridge list in the women’s javelin Saturday when she threw a personal best of 153 feet 2 inches to finish second in the event in a meet at UCLA. Dunn bettered her previous best of 150-3 on five occasions during the meet.
