Villa Park Coach David Shelton got his 200th victory when the Spartans scored a run in the ninth inning to beat Canyon, 2-1, in a Century League softball game Wednesday at Villa Park.

Villa Park also clinched a berth in the Southern Section playoffs for the 10th time in the last 11 years, with a third-place finish.

“I’m just glad to stick around a long time to get it (the victory),” said Shelton, who has a record of 200-135-2 in 14 years as the Spartans’ coach. “Most of the softball coaches don’t last that long, they move onto other things. I’m just fortunate to stay around long enough to get 200 wins.”
