Encino-based CU Bancorp said it named Stephen G. Carpenter as acting president and chief executive of the company and chief executive of its California United Bank unit.

In a press release, CU Bancorp said Carpenter succeeds John J. Keating, who will stay on as a company consultant.

Before his new appointments, Carpenter was vice chairman of Security Pacific’s middle market bank.
