SANTA PAULA : Fugitive Taken Into Custody in Houston

Share

Houston police have arrested a Santa Paula fugitive who police say helped his brother kill one relative and seriously wound another nearly a year ago.

Santa Paula authorities were notified Sunday that Jesus Maya Tellez had been taken into custody on a murder warrant in the Santa Paula case. The details of the arrest were not available Monday.

The arrest warrant was issued for murder and attempted murder for Jesus Tellez’s alleged role in the death of 27-year-old Javier Tellez at Teague Park on June 23. Jesus Tellez drove his brother, Arturo Tellez, 25, to the park, where Arturo Tellez shot his cousin, Javier Tellez, as he left a restroom, police said.

Arturo Tellez then turned the gun on Jose Tellez, another cousin, and shot him three times, according to police. Jose Tellez survived the shooting, but was seriously injured, police said.

Both men were Santa Paula residents and had been sought since the shootings, police said. Arturo Tellez has still not been found, authorities said. Jesus Tellez will be extradited from Texas by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department, Santa Paula police said.

The shootings apparently stemmed from a family feud that originated in Mexico, Santa Paula police said.
