Disservice to Hygienists

Share

There was a serious error in “Hygienist Faces Licensing Charge” in the July 10 issue. Shapiro is not a dental hygienist accused of practicing without a license, she is a lay person accused of impersonating a dental hygienist.

To describe her as a hygienist does a great disservice to the thousands of people who have completed the rigorous education, internship and examination requirements to practice as dental hygienists. I doubt that The Times would describe someone practicing law or medicine under such circumstances as a lawyer or physician.
