State Budget Problems

Share

Your editorial “Is This Any Way to Do a Budget?” (Sept. 4) pointed out the high price California has paid for the recent budget crisis. Just how high it was for many developmentally and multiply-disabled Californians could be seen in the faces and read in your many poignant articles and photos.

One story stands out--this was a moving account by Stephanie Chavez (Aug. 28) detailing the rally at a mid-Wilshire park of 2,000 developmentally disabled people, their parents and caretakers.

As a parent of a mentally retarded adult son who is in community care, I appreciated The Times running that story because it helped Sacramento to better understand how program cuts adversely affect the lives of disabled individuals and their families.
