PREP ROUNDUP : Dana Hills Boys Win League Title in Cross-Country

Dana Hills won its third consecutive South Coast League boys’ cross-country title with 27 points in the meet held Friday at Laguna Niguel Regional Park.

Denyn Pysz and John Diondolillo finished second and third for Dana Hills, which won its eighth title in the last 11 years. Rob Nelson of El Toro won the individual title with a time of 15 minutes 35 seconds over the three-mile course.

In the South Coast Conference girls’ cross-country championship:

Dana Hills wins--Capistrano Valley won the league meet Friday with 35 points, but Dana Hills came away with the league title by combining a first-place regular season finish with a second-place finish (53 points) at Friday’s meet. Leading the way for Dana Hills was Meghan Mayes, who placed second overall. The individual winner was Mission Viejo’s Andrea Steins, who covered the three-mile course in 18:39.

In Orange League water polo:

Brea-Olinda 10, Western 5--Tad Murphy had five goals for visiting Brea-Olinda (12-13, 4-3).

Magnolia 21, Savanna 2--Mustafa Hassan scored five goals and Matt Johnson scored three for host Magnolia (19-4, 6-0). Savanna is 0-6 in league.

In nonleague water polo:

Marina 17, Long Beach Millikan 7--Brian Akian led a balanced attack with four goals as visiting Marina (16-8) pulled away with seven unanswered scores in the fourth quarter.

Villa Park 18, Downey 9--Lenny Malo had seven goals for Villa Park (15-10, 3-1). Teammate Elliot Parker contributed five goals. Paul Nguyen had 12 saves for Villa Park.

El Toro 15, Fountain Valley 8--Daniel Mathot had eight goals followed by teammate Brandon Stout with four goals for El Toro (23-1).
