SANTA PAULA : City Clerk to Leave Post for New Job in Sierra Community

Share

Santa Paula City Clerk Stacey MacDonald has announced that she will leave office next month to take a position as city administrator in the Sierra Nevada town of Portola.

MacDonald, who has served as Santa Paula’s city clerk for nine years, was elected to another four-year term this month with no opposition.

MacDonald performed her duties as city clerk on top of her full-time position as an administrative analyst in Santa Paula, a position she held for 11 years.

The part-time city clerk position pays $300 a month.

City Administrator Arnold Dowdy said it was unclear whether the City Council will appoint a successor to fill out MacDonald’s full term, or appoint an interim clerk until either a special election can be held or a general election is scheduled.

He estimated that a special election could cost up to $10,000.

In addition to her official responsibilities, MacDonald was active in groups including the Ventura County Commission on Women and the California Assn. of City Clerks.

MacDonald, who was not available for comment Wednesday, will start her new $38,000-a-year job in the Plumas County town of 2,500 on Jan. 1, Dowdy said.

“The city will miss Stacey’s expertise and abilities,” Dowdy said.
