Your editorial “Welfare Watch: A Little Gets Tinier” (Dec. 8) demands a reply. If the writer thinks $302 per month is too little, remember, this covers a million people in Los Angeles County. That’s $302 million per month--over $3.6 billion per year, and the writer wants more!

Where is this going to come from, and more importantly, why are we supporting single, childless adults? If they need more money, a minimum wage job would double their income and allow them to make a contribution to society. Is there some other perspective that allows this giveaway to make sense? I’d really like to know.
