GM Confronts Paint Problem: General Motors Corp. has told its 13,000 dealers to work out deals with customers for new paint jobs after discovering that the paint on some of its cars and trucks had begun to peel. The paint problem was brought to GM’s attention six months ago by the Center for Auto Safety, a Washington-based automotive watchdog group. Millions of vehicles made from 1986 to present could be involved, although GM believes the problem is not widespread. Dealers were given authority to work out deals on affected cars, with GM paying up to the full cost of a new paint job.
