Calabasas Electronics Firm Registers Jump in Profits

Xircom Inc., a Calabasas maker of network connections for personal computers, said its fiscal second-quarter earnings surged 59%, reflecting sales growth from new products and cost cutting.

For the three months ended March 31, the company’s earnings rose to $2.1 million, from $1.3 million a year earlier. Quarterly revenue increased 32%, to $18.7 million from $14.2 million a year earlier.

For the first half of its fiscal year, Xircom’s profit rose 47%, to $3.9 million from $2.7 million a year earlier. Xircom said that came on a 31% increase in revenue, to $35.9 million from $27.5 million.
