Blaming Schools Wrong

* Andrea Hecht’s commentary “Teacher’s Pawn” (May 2) just shows how many parents are blaming the school system and the teachers for what is wrong with education today.

We all can remember the good old days when we prepared for open house or parents’ night. But now Andrea Hecht complains because the hours are not convenient to her schedule. Twice a year she cannot take off to meet with teachers and see what work her child is doing at school?

She can’t lose a couple of hours during the day to attend parents’ night, but she expects the teachers to give up their off-duty time.
