Voice Powered Technology Reports 1st-Quarter Loss

Voice Powered Technology International Inc., a Canoga Park company that designs and sells portable voice-recognition VCR electronics products, reported a loss of $2.41 million for its first quarter that ended March 31.

The loss came on revenue of $4.45 million. No comparable results are available for the year-earlier period. Voice Powered, which was founded in 1990 and went public in October, was previously in a start-up phase and had no sales.

In all of 1992, Voice Powered said it lost $5 million on revenue of $1.75 million.

The company previously announced that Philips Consumer Electronics Co. has licensed Voice Powered’s technology for four new Magnavox and Philips videocassette recorders. It also said that as of April 30, all of its series B preferred stockholders exercised their common stock options, generating $2.3 million in working capital for the company.
