Mudslide Buries Village

QUITO, Ecuador —
The search was called off Monday for victims of a May 9 mudslide in a remote Andean mining town in which more than 200 people were buried under tons of rock and earth. Rescue teams recovered 105 bodies, but more than 100 more are still missing. Officials blamed uncontrolled gold mining.
