SANTA ANA : Summer Youth Jobs, Classes May Expand

Share

Santa Ana Private Industry Council officials hope to expand the organization’s summer youth employment program, which provides summer jobs and special classes for more than 400 students aged 14 to 21.

Spokeswoman Patti Nunn said that the nonprofit organization will receive at least $800,000 from the federal government for its Summer Jobs for Youth programs, although it could get more if several bills are approved by Congress.

The summer programs include Camp Success, designed to show students how to choose and enter rewarding careers, and Drop-Out Prevention, which teaches older students important skills such as computer literacy. Other programs include Kids Making a Difference, which aims at improving the self-esteem of at-risk students, and Teen Parent, which provides child care for young parents taking English, math and science courses.
