SANTA ANA : Volunteers Sought for Cleanup Project

Share

With brooms and paintbrushes in hand, about 100 volunteers are expected to turn out Saturday for the Center Street Project Cleanup Day.

The event, sponsored by the Police Department and the Valley High Neighborhood Assn., will focus on cleaning up five apartment complexes in the 2200 block of South Center Street, Police Lt. Robert Helton said.

“This is intended to draw the community together,” Helton said. “At one time, they had very high crime in that neighborhood, with narcotics, thefts and burglaries.”

He said police hope that the event will draw positive attention to the area.

“Crime problems have been dealt with by police and the neighborhood working together,” Helton said. “We want to keep it clean and let people know that folks do care.”

The event will begin at 10 a.m. and last until 4 p.m. Volunteers should meet at Adams Park, 2302 S. Raitt St.

Representatives from the Police Department will be available to answer questions and hand out materials. Barney the Talking Police Car and McGruff, the crime-fighting dog, also will be on hand.
