THOUSAND OAKS : Applicants Sought for Arts Commission

Share

Thousand Oaks residents interested in organizing a yearly photography show, overseeing the community art gallery and advising the city on art-related issues can apply now for the Arts Commission.

The nine-member Arts Commission will have five openings this fall. Applications were originally due today, but the deadline has been extended at least two weeks because of a light turnout, said Carol Williams, the city’s arts liaison.

The City Council interviews and appoints commissioners to two-year terms.

Founded in 1980, the Arts Commission is charged with promoting the city’s cultural development and preserving the Conejo Valley’s heritage and historic resources.

“We’re looking for people who would like to become heavily involved with the cultural development of the city,” Commission Chairwoman Margaret Travers said. “They need to have some experience or expertise in the arts, whether it’s visual arts, performing arts, literary arts or architecture.”

The commission meets the second Thursday each month, but will be off July and August this year.

For an application, contact the city clerk’s office at 497-8611, ext. 221.
